Both online and in-person Chinese classes have their place. The right choice depends on your budget, schedule, location, and how quickly you need to progress.
The Case for In-Person Classes
In-person classes offer immediate feedback, structured accountability, and social pressure that keeps you showing up. For beginners especially, having a teacher correct your tones in real time is invaluable.
When Online Works Better
Online learning shines when you need flexibility. You can study at odd hours, replay lessons, and access teachers from anywhere in the world. It is also significantly cheaper.
My Recommendation
Start with in-person group classes if possible. Once you reach HSK 3, supplement with online tutors for conversation practice. The combination is hard to beat.
